| Love is a servant word. If we truly love God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength, our actions will show that we truly do. We have all heard someone say empty words to us, maybe it was a parental figure, or a close friend. They made grand gestures of “love” with their words, but their actions proved the exact opposite. This is how it can be with God. If we say we love God, then our actions will prove our words to be true. In John 14:15 the Bible says “If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” Also in 1 John 5:2-3, it says, “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.” So many places in the scriptures show that love is demonstrated through our obedience to God proving that love is in fact a servant word. So, what does it look like to truly obey the Lord’s commandments? Do we do it perfectly? Absolutely not. However, God has given us the ability to overcome any sin, or struggle that tries to entangle us! In Romans 8:1-2, the Bible says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” That means we can overcome any sin and walk in obedience to God because of the powerful work Christ did on the cross. Be encouraged today to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.“-Mark 12:30 |
